I find it very interesting to research some of the strange places that Harley Davidson motorcycles have appeared in the world throughout the company’s 100 year history.
While it is fairly common knowledge that Harley-Davidson has extensive representation throughout Eastern Europe with official distributors in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, there are few who realize that Harley-Davidson provided several thousand WLA model motorcycles to the armed forces of the former Soviet Union during World War II. The 740cc military-issue motorcycle was used for dispatch and reconnaissance work.
In 2006 H-D returned to the former Soviet Union by opening Harley Davidson Moscow, the first authorized Harley-Davidson dealership in Russia since 1917!
Distributed by the same company who handles Ferrari and Bently, H-Ds are considered imported exotics and status symbols to the Russian population.
As the demographics of our own nation change (with the aging population of Harley’s biggest supporters; the baby boomers) part of H-D’s ability to remain competitive has been to target the global market.
