About Sportster.org
In the Spring of 1995, Doug Mansfield purchased his first (very) used Sportster but was disappointed to find very little information on the Internet. As a result, he started to put together the Sportster Home Page. His goal was to provide a place for Sportster enthusiasts to share experiences, technical information, get help, or just hang out and look at other cool Sportsters.
In late 1996, he began the XL-List, the first public e-mail mailing list for Sportster owners to share even more information. It has been an incredible success, with thousands of subscribers from all walks of life and from all over the world.
In 1999, the XL-List moved over to the Sportster.org domain to make it easier to find (and remember). Also later the same year, the Sportster List Racing Team was formed in an effort to regain the Land Speed Record for a pushrod class motorcycle.
